| A CITY THAT PROTECTS ITS OWN. |

| This city can be hard. When I was young, I asked my priest how you can get to Heaven and still protect yourself from all the evil in the world. He told me what God told his children, "You are sheep among wolves. Be wise as serpents, yet innocent as doves( . ) |

Ten fatalities in the last week. Six of them that could have been prevented if we'd gotten the patients sooner, three of them courtesy of people being complete morons on Memorial Day. One of them was a six year old kid who was on the wrong side of a car when another idiot decided to forget he had brakes.
This is how I've been measuring my days. My weeks, really, but that's only because if I try to measure anything by days, I end up feeling so desolate and remorseful that there's absolutely zero productivity. I love what I do, but sometimes, there's a point. A precipice, a ledge. And lately, for whatever reason, I feel more as though I'm about to topple over the side into God knows what. Lately, more lives have been lost than saved in my department.
So, cheers. Bottoms up. Slainte. Whatever. Clearly, it's a great week to save lives.
